“If we give children enough space and possibilities for free movement, they will move as beautifully and gracefully as animals: nimbly, simply, confidently and naturally” – Dr Emmi Pikler
Here at Growing Wings we strongly believe in all tamariki having ample opportunities to explore at their own uninterrupted pace. It is a big part of our philosophy that we have grown based off research surrounding brain development. We recognise the importance of tamariki having a safe environment where they feel empowered to explore their movements as they feel ready.
Freedom of movement is the art of tamariki knowing their own limits and capabilities. A child will never go beyond what they’re ready for when it comes to movement simply because they can’t. Their bodies are biological designed to develop as they gain the strength and skills required for the movement they’re exploring.
Every little bit of movement you see your tamariki exploring, is a part of their biological make up. From crossing their mid line, to touching their toes, to rocking backwards and forwards on their knees, it’s all part of the building blocks to lead them to success. Every little movement plays such a vital role in their development.
Here at Growing Wings we will never put your child into a position that they’re not ready to be in. Instead, we will offer them uninterrupted opportunities to explore and lead their learning. They will be trusted in their movements knowing that wherever they’re at, that’s exactly where they’re supposed to be and we will be right beside them offering support and guidance.
