There’s power in words. There is even more power in words that are strung together to tell a story. Stories reveal truths, encourage exploration, generate curiosity, and allow our imagination to flourish!
This week at Growing wings ELC, we have loved looking at Jack and the beanstalk. We’ve listened to the story, had wonderful conversations and explored different parts of the story through the characters, feelings and how it links to us at Growing wings.
Tamariki love listening to stories as it takes them to their imaginary world, where they can see fairies, kings and queens, or even talking animals
A story goes beyond the text on the page and it opens up a whole new world of learning.

A huge part of our philosophy here at Growing Wings is getting our tamariki school ready. When tamariki head off to primary school, storytelling and books encourage further oral language, speech, support sentence structure, comprehension and, grammar and punctuation.
Tamariki thrive off hearing multiple different stories every day, whether it comes from a book, a Pūrākau, or a story from your own imagination. It’s a safe place for our tamariki to explore their evolving working theories as they use their existing knowledge to try to make sense of new experiences.
After reading Jack and the beanstalk, the Kaiako followed up using painting, play dough and Lego. Through role playing, we created our own version of the story that can be seen through our artwork, conversations and pictures documented on our walls. We would love for you to check it out
