Recently our tamariki have been on a journey of discovery and exploration. Ours days have been spent exploring a variety of art materials, techniques and resources, in a quest to design our very own feather kākahu. The construction of the feather kākahu became a project focus as we explored and celebrated Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our own unique way.
Aligning with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we hold 3 core values close, which can also be seen evidently in our Growing Wings environment, our documentation and our teaching practices.
Partnership, Protection and Participation
Partnership can be seen in the collaborative practices kaiako encourage with whānau and tamariki, building relationships around respect, trust and love. As protectors, we keep alive waiata, pūrākau, tikanga, culture and karakia. And thirdly, participation, tamariki are encouraged to share their kete of knowledge, as we celebrate and recognise the qualities that are unique to them while supporting them to be confident, capable learners.
Throughout the past week we’ve come together in collaboration, reflecting these core values to create something beautiful. The feather kākahu was chosen as it can be viewed as a symbol of people coming together in times of celebration and achievement. It provided us all an opportunity to reflect, increase our knowledge, and our awareness around Aotearoa history
